Speech Pathologist
Also known as Speech Therapist
A speech pathologist specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders relating to speech, the voice, and related muscles/organs.
A speech pathologist, sometimes called a speech therapist, is someone who treats patients with speech and voice related disorders. A speech pathologist works mainly in clinical and educational settings. Speech pathologists may be associated with a hospital or with a school district. In medical settings, a speech pathologist may work with patients of any age while in a school setting the speech pathologist would work only with children within a K-12 setting. A speech pathologist spends most of their time with patients and would need to have strong interpersonal skills, good communication skills, and patience with their clients. This would be a great fit for someone who is interested in sound and listening but does not want to pursue a career in music specifically.
A speech pathologist is required to hold a license in speech pathology along with a bachelor's degree. Some organizations also require a master’s degree.
