Psychologist

A psychologist is someone who specializes in the human mind and its part in human behavior. A background in psychology can lead to many careers in both clinical and educational settings. Psychologists may work in a medical clinic as a clinical psychologist. A clinical psychologist spends much of their time with patients and anyone interested in this line of work would need to have great interpersonal, listening, and empathetic skills.

They may also work in a K-12 educational setting as a school psychologist or in a university setting as a professor of psychology and researcher of psychology. (See Professor.)

If you are a musician who is interested in psychology, sports and performance psychology are rapidly growing fields. As a psychologist with a focus on performance, you may find yourself conducting research on performance or working as a therapist specifically for musicians, dancers, or actors.

A psychologist is expected to have a doctorate degree in psychology or a related field. Clinical psychologists need additional certification and licenses to work within a clinic.
