Producer

A producer “produces” a film or production by making all major production decisions such as choosing a script, appointing directors, writers, and editors, coordinating finances, and hiring contractors. They are involved in all stages of a production from beginning to end including marketing and distribution after a production is completed. They are in control of all logistical decisions and are sometimes involved in creative decisions along with the director. One of their major jobs is ensuring a budget and timeline for a production. 

There are many paths to becoming a producer. Since producers are involved in so many aspects of a production, they are required to have a strong knowledge of the industry and its many parts. Many producers start in another aspect of the film industry and will have a degree in a related field. Major producers are often affiliated with a company and will be hired after many years of being involved in the film industry. However, producers can also work alongside upcoming filmmakers or smaller film companies and may be hired through connections made through internships or other jobs.
