A playback operator is responsible for playing pre-recorded elements used in a live performance.
A playback operator is someone responsible for playing pre-recorded audio or video for a live production. You have experienced the work of a playback operator either during a traffic report on the news, a playback clip on a talk show, or hearing added audio elements on the radio. A playback operator may not be seen on the screen or stage but they are a type of performer, timing audio and visual elements with the performance happening on screen or stage.
Playback operators are expected to obtain a bachelor's degree in a related field such as music technology or film. It is recommended that aspiring playback operators participate in internships relating to their field.
