Physical Therapist
Uses an understanding of how the body moves to help improve lives.
Physical therapists use their expert understanding of movement and the anatomy of the human body to improve the lives of their patients. Their treatments include creating rehabilitation plans for injured patients to regain movement and mitigate pain. They develop exercise routines that help prevent future disability or more effectively reach personal health goals. Physical therapists most often work in the medical field, but also play important roles in fields like sports sciences and in the business sector as consultants. They can frequently be found working in hospitals, clinics, sports facilities, or at their patient’s homes.
Physical therapists must be comfortable being physically active and working in a hands-on capacity with a wide range of patients. A musician’s training for attention to detail and experience in developing practice routines translate well into the physical therapist’s role. Physical therapists with performance experience are also uniquely qualified to help other musicians with the treatment and prevention of performance related injuries. This career requires earning a doctor of physical therapy degree from an accredited program and gaining an additional state license to practice.
