A music software developer is a computer scientist or programmer who creates the software that is used for musical purposes. This may be audio editing software, composition programs, audio effects software, or anything else the developer is hired for. They may be hired by a specific company or work as a freelance developer. As a freelancer, they may choose to work on many different projects with many different clients or contract with only one company at a time. 

While a music software developer does not need to have an education in music, it is helpful to have some background in order to create the best product. Music software developers are required to obtain a Bachelor’s in computer science, programming, or software development.
